NEXUS AG is further expanding its European market position in digital healthcare communication by bringing the Danish company SYNLAB Medical Digital Services (SMDS) from the SYNLAB Group into the NEXUS Group.

NEXUS and SMDS combine their expertise in clinical communication. Both companies are leading providers, particularly in digital laboratory requisitions in Germany, Austria, and Denmark. The joint goal is to accelerate innovation and expand these solutions across Europe.

The demand for digital documentation and connected healthcare processes continues to grow. Digital requisitions, e-prescriptions, and structured lab results are increasing steadily, while the need for interoperable systems is driving the development of more connected healthcare ecosystems.

SMDS is a well-established provider of digital communication solutions in the Danish healthcare market. Its core platform “WebReq” serves as a key infrastructure for digital laboratory requisitions in the primary care sector and is widely used across Denmark, with about 3,200 clinics and over 8,000 daily users.

NEXUS already is a strong player in the fields of speech recognition and women's health in Denmark. SMDS’s strong position in Denmark provides additional opportunities to introduce further NEXUS diagnostic solutions into the Danish healthcare sector. NEXUS will integrate SMDS’s solutions into its product portfolio, further accelerating the development of interoperable and scalable communication solutions for the European market.

“SMDS and NEXUS are both leading players in laboratory communication. Together, we will further strengthen our market position, drive innovation, and expand our footprint across Europe,”
says Ingo Behrendt, CEO of NEXUS.

“Together with NEXUS, we will leverage our combined healthcare expertise to elevate our solutions, delivering enhanced value, deeper insights, and a higher level of service to our clients,”
adds Lars Holdt, CEO of SMDS.

Existing customer and partner relationships of SMDS will remain. The focus will be on leveraging synergies and continuously expanding the joint portfolio in digital healthcare communication.
